Easter Reflection
Reflection by Michael W. Blastic, OFM
These are the lyrics of the final verse of Charles Westley’s wonderful hymn, “Love Divine All Loves Excelling.” The lyrics celebrate the mystery of Easter with wonderful clarity and insight and challenge each of us to appreciate the gift of Easter for what it truly is – the beginning of the new creation here on earth. In the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we see our salvation in His resurrected glory as our own image now restored to wholeness by the outpouring of God’s love revealed on the cross and communicated in the Holy Spirit. God’s Easter love changes us from the glory that is already ours by birth into the glory of a being made new by the Spirit’s life. Easter is a day and season in which we should find ourselves lost in the wonder of God’s love for us just as we are, lost in the love we have for God and each other as we work in the garden of the new creation of this world to build communities of justice, hope and peace, and lost as well in praise of God and God’s creation with thanksgiving for the many gifts which overwhelm us with divine goodness!
Easter Blessings and Peace!
